Antoinette (Toni) Durben grew up in Chilton, a
small farming community in Wisconsin. At a young age she talked about
becoming a teacher and fulfilled that dream by teaching Kindergarten for
33 years in the Appleton Public Schools in Wisconsin. She laid the
stepping stones preparing children for adulthood, many such skills
taught through the use of good books. Her grandchildren, Jake, 12, and
Cole, 10, served as inspiration for this book through their questions,
"What's happening to Grandpa?" and "We really miss Grandpa!" Durben retired in 1998 and is active in the community, schools and church. She continues to work with children as often as possible. |
